In 1991 Linus Torvalds,now age 39, became the chief architect of the Linux kernel for the Linux Operating System. The Linux OS has helped to usher in the new Open Source development method, in which programmers from all over the world can use the Linux OS as a platform for creating their own personalized systems. Since the innovation of Linux, which is based on the Unixoperating system , there have been countless additions and modifications to Linus's initial model, which is exactly what he was hoping for!

Green IT ,or green computing, pertains to environmental sustainability, the economics of energy efficiency, and the toal cost of owning technology (i.e. cost of disposoal and recylcing). Using green information technology includes power management, server virtualization, regulatory compliance, use of renewable energy sources, eco-labeling of IT products, and environment-related risk mitigation. The use, design, disposal, and manufacturing of green information technology will provide many opportunities for businesses and individuals to gain a competitive advantage over peers in their market.

Open Source software is becoming the new wave of the future, and possibly the end of Microsoft's monopoly on software distribution. Open source software promotes "peer production" and allows the production and development of source materials, especially source code. Most Open Source software is available to the public for free and serves to eliminate the access costs of the consumer and the creatro by reducing copyright restrictions. Open Source development will ideally lead to the creation of additional works that will benefit society.

Is it just me or does it seem like Google is starting to creep up on Microsoft and Apple as the next great technological giant, but only in a much more practical way. Take for instance GoogleVoice. I mean, this thing is pretty futuristic! And best of all, like 411 Goog IT's Free!!!, or as my 452 professor would say "the most beautiful word in the English language!"
